Caffè Fortuna, named after the Italian word for "good fortune," draws inspiration from Alfa Romeo—a prized brand in the client’s private collection and the legendary automobile manufacturer founded in Milan in the early 20th century. When a racing driver painted a four-leaf clover (Quadrifoglio) onto his car and claimed victory, it became more than just a lucky charm; it evolved into an enduring symbol of Italian craftsmanship and prestige.

Extracting the geometric motif of the quadrifoglio, the interior grounds itself in deep green and rich wood tones, punctuated by stone and iron detailing. On a street corner in Dazhi, Taipei, the design evokes the restrained, refined atmosphere of mid-century Milanese Modernism.

Here, the quadrifoglio motif serves not merely as brand identity, but as a concept subtly deconstructed into rational geometric forms and beveled profiles. From door handles and patterned tiles to custom woodwork, this geometry quietly permeates the entire space. To address the existing window frames, operable panels integrate them seamlessly into dark wood cladding, pierced by six geometric apertures that admit natural light while filtering out exterior visual chaos. Meanwhile, volumes carved from the interior walls are transposed onto the facade, articulating a precise geometric interplay between carved negativity and positive mass.

The existing corner traffic signal has also been assimilated into the spatial palette. By turning a site constraint into a signature feature, the design invites guests into an orderly, breathing environment where humanistic rationality and tactile craftsmanship resonate in quiet harmony.
